Drop Your Drawers! Producer Responsibility via Textile Recycling

Everything old is new again thanks to this consumer take-back program where Patagonia illustrates producer responsibility and a zero waste mentality can close the loop.

Recycling post-consumer textiles and post-industrial fabric scraps are a huge opportunity to improve the environmental impact of fashion, while saving money. For example, Patagonia is redefining waste through their Common Thread Garment Recycling Program. Customers can bring back their old and worn Patagonia clothes by dropping them off in the “Drop Your Drawers” box at any Patagonia store. These garments are broken down and then transformed into recycled thread, recycled material and ultimately new clothes. Their goal is to make all their clothes recyclable! What’s your goal? Have you seen new retail drop-off recycling programs popping up or other examples of producer responsibility?
